What is involved in the design and making of your wedding dress.
“14 steps to happiness”
1. Design Ideas
You may have some design references of your own - a photo from a magazine, a painting or just an idea in you head. The designer, Kundi, will chat with you to see what are your general requirements and then go over any additional options that you may identify
2. Preliminary sketches:
The first steps in the design of your dress are the sketches which help crystallise and give form to your ideas for both your dress and also for your bridesmaids. This is particularly important if the two are to be colour and style co-ordinated.
3. Choice of Design
In these sketches, elements from photos, drawings, your own visions will be combined so that you can incorporate for instance a neck-line from one dress, ,a sleeve from another, skirt from another and so on. 4. Preliminary choice of accessories
Samples of Embroidery, beading, Swarovski crystals, fabric roses, bows Laces, Tiaras etc are all available to give you additional ideas.
Please note however that a straight copy of any other designers’ work will not be made.
5. Choice of fabric
Once the style has been decided upon you will then be able to chose from a wide range of fabrics, including the beautiful silks shown above.
You will be given guidance if necessary as to which fabrics are suitable for your design and which will give the a best effect.
6. Pattern cutting
From the sketches and measurements that the designer will make a paper pattern will be made of the individual components of your dress.
7. Toile Mock-up
From this paper pattern a “toile” ( Mock-up garment,) then will cut from plain cotton fabric and madeup. This will exclude embroidery and accessories.
8. First fitting in Toile
This will allow you and your designer to assess the cut and flow of the design. The designer will make any adjustments necessary and transfer them to a new paper pattern.
9. Cutting of chosen fabric
Using the latest paper pattern the maker will cut the individual components for your wedding dress from the fabric you have chosen.
10. Embroidery ,Beadwork Accessories.
Any Beadwork, appliqué or embroidery, or lace you have chosen will then be added to the individual dress panels
11. Making up of final dress
Once the embroidery, beadwork or appliqué has been completed the individual components of the pattern will be assembled and made up into the final dress.
12. Fitting, in real dress.
Running up to the big day, you will generally require two fittings in the real dress. However there is no limit to the number of fittings you can have; however to ensure a perfect fit, it is important that for each fitting you wear the same foundation garments that you intend to wear on the day.
13. Finishing touches:
On the day of the wedding the designer and maker of your wedding dress will help you dress and make any finishing touches that may be necessary to your accessories etc and generally help you to look your very very best.
