Made to Measure

Design your own made to measure dress - what’s involved?

Design ideas - you may have some design references of your own - a photo in a magazine, a painting - or you may just have a picture in your head. We specialise in adding a few suggestions and getting those ideas crystallised onto paper.

The first steps in the creation of your wedding wear are the sketches - giving form to your ideas for yourself and/or your bridesmaids.

bridesmaid_dresses3.jpgSketches can be made to combine features from photos, magazines, paintings or your own drawings and ideas. So you can take a neckline from one dress, a sleeve from another, a skirt from another and so on. (however please note that I will not make straight copies of other designers’ work due to professional etiquette.)

Embroidery, Beading, Bows, Ribbons, Swarovski crystals, fabric roses etc are all available to choose from.

Once you have decided upon your style, you can then choose from a huge range of fabrics and colours (over one thousand samples for this year!) including the beautiful silks shown above. I will, of course if you require, provide guidance upon which fabrics are suitable for your design and that will give the desired effect.

I then draft a paper pattern and from that make up a toile (a mock-up of the garment, usually in a plain cotton fabric but without the details of the finished dress). The toile is then fitted to you. Adjustments can be made to neck depth, sleeve length, fit etc. and then any alterations needed are transferred to the final pattern. To ensure a perfect fit , it is important at all your fittings, to wear the same foundation garments as you are going to wear ‘on the day.’

Fitting- running up to the big day generally two fittings will be sufficient - but there is no limit to this and we can have as many fittings as is necessary for you to feel completely comfortable.
